Los Roques is a national park made up of hundreds of small corral islands. The park is located about 60 miles off the shore of Venezuela north of Caracas. It is a paradise with white sand beaches and brilliant, clear blue water. Due to its designation as a national park, no building is allowed in Los Roques and thus no hotels exist. Most of the existing structures on the big island of Gran Roque have been converted to posadas and offer comfortable accommodations, although at a high price. I have been to Los Roques three times to date, once for the day and twice for full weekends. June 1999 August 1999 February 2000 |
