Merida is a nice enough town, but the real appeal of the region is the Andes mountains and the more rustic towns located around Merida. I really enjoy the alpine geology and vegetation of this area and I would visit more frequently if only I lived closer to Merida. As it is I have been there twice, but only for brief periods of time. I would like to spend a week and scale Pico Humboldt and Pico Bolivar, the two highest mountains in Venezuela. November 1999 March 2000 |
